Artistic Statement
As a dancer, I am gifted with a strong and flexible body that allows for me to physically express my artistry. I make fluid and contorted movements that are inspired by the generations who have strived to master this craft. My art is driven by the beauty in practice itself, and is produced as a distraction from the craziness of the outside world.
TEACHING STATEMENT
I would not be where I am today without some pretty incredible teachers. They taught me technique and discipline, as well as inspired me to keep dancing for the past seventeen years. I want to do that for the next generation of young dancers. My style of teaching is much deeper than just a class, I want to spark an artistic flame in each student.
I teach young adults starting high school all the way to collegiate dancers. I spend time refining their technical skills, but my main focus is to assist them in finding their own artistic voice. I do this by allowing a lot of time for practice and self exploration in a comfortable space while rarely using mirrors. I bring the students' focus to weight and resistance to movement. I believe that each dancer should be able to take a piece of choreography and add their own uniqueness.
I am a joyous and caring person who can always light up a room. I make sure my classroom is light and warm allowing for the students to feel comfortable to take risks and come to me with whatever they need. I am versatile and flexible to change my lesson plan when it comes to the overall happiness of my students. I believe in helping students find why they started dancing in the first place and having fun with their artistry.
